The problem with this instant communication is that we tend to make off-the-cuff comments, generally intended as flippant jokes, which would go down OK in conversation but can cause offence in writing because we don't have the added meaning imparted by tone of voice, facial expression and body language. Linguists seem to think that these three things account for up to 90% of the meaning we extract from spoken comments. It does behove us, therefore, to think twice before posting and to re-read our posts to make certain there is minimal chance of misinterpretation, but this is a council of perfection and I have been as guilty as anyone of not following my own advice.

The flip side, of course, is that we must try to give our electronic friends the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure Hrugaar's comment was intended as a joke. That's certainly how I chose to interpret it, and I hope other bloggers will, too.Satima Flavellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17427849961195148899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7718195565973839216.post-65479180359539893792008-07-19T16:09:00.000+08:002008-07-19T16:09:00.000+08:00Felt I needed to jump in here and comment on hruga...Felt I needed to jump in here and comment on hrugaar's comment, especially as my company gets a mention here.

As the anonymous person mentioned, the A boy goes on a journey title relates to one of two plotlines in a novel(I seem to remember it used in a review of Le Guin's Earthsea books).

I find the comments as coming-of-age gay novel to be a little unwarranted and also offensive.

My main concern though is that someone who thinks they have travelled to a gay website feels their narrow-minded viewpoint sustained by seeing The Phantom Queen Awakes.Mark Denizhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01671767893880699522noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7718195565973839216.post-10231851676407573662008-07-19T10:19:00.000+08:002008-07-19T10:19:00.000+08:00Or if you know about writing in spec fic, you'd re...Or if you know about writing in spec fic, you'd recognise that A boy goes on a journey is actually one of two basic plotlines that someone said every novel follows. Either A boy goes on a journey or A stranger comes to town.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7718195565973839216.post-57602181954426320412008-07-17T05:52:00.000+08:002008-07-17T05:52:00.000+08:00thank's for the funny test ^^'Lancelot speaking'thank's for the funny test ^^
'Lancelot speaking'Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7718195565973839216.post-2056857931092404262008-07-14T22:20:00.000+08:002008-07-14T22:20:00.000+08:00Ah well, chac'un a son double-entendre:-)Ah well, chac'un a son double-entendre:-)Satima Flavellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17427849961195148899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7718195565973839216.post-31081083988401354412008-07-14T21:30:00.000+08:002008-07-14T21:30:00.000+08:00Sounds like something interesting.
