About Me

Perth, Western Australia, Australia
I am based in Perth, Western Australia. You might enjoy my books - The Dagger of Dresnia, the first book of the Talismans Trilogy, is available at all good online book shops as is Book two, The Cloak of Challiver. Book three, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation. I trained in piano and singing at the NSW Conservatorium of Music. I also trained in dance (Scully-Borovansky, WAAPA) and drama (NIDA). Since 1987 I have been writing reviews of performances in all genres for a variety of publications, including Music Maker, ArtsWest, Dance Australia, The Australian and others. Now semi-retired, I still write occasionally for the ArtsHub website.

My books

The first two books of my trilogy, The Talismans, (The Dagger of Dresnia, and book two, The Cloak of Challiver) are available in e-book format from Smashwords, Amazon and other online sellers. Book three of the trilogy, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation.I also have a short story, 'La Belle Dame', in print - see Mythic Resonance below - as well as well as a few poems in various places. The best way to contact me is via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/satimaflavell

Buy The Talismans

The first two books of The Talismans trilogy were published by Satalyte Publications, which, sadly, has gone out of business. However, The Dagger of Dresnia and The Cloak of Challiver are available as ebooks on the usual book-selling websites, and book three, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation. The easiest way to contact me is via Facebook.

On My Other Blog...

The hayfever has made me so non compus today that I was going to give blogging a miss - until I found a Shakespeare meme on Karen Miller's blog. Unfortunately Blogspot is being silly again and wouldn't let me post it here, so I've put my effort up on My LJ instead. It's a hoot.

I hope to have a clear head to blog properly next weekend - maybe even before if I feel inspired and gain some clarity!

I have hayfever, too.

Me too, I am visiting as well. Sent by Annalouise. I am interested in your sci fi reading, particularly the Temeraire series. I am trying to get my library to order the most recent book, Empire of Ivory. Have you read the series Saga of the Seven Suns, great books. Several of us would like to know how you get working links in your text. We can't seem to do it.

Hi Jo and Lyn!

My hay fever seems to have passed now, thank heavens - I hope yours has too, Lyn!

Jo, I can't show you how to make links here because blogger just show the links and not the code, so you'd be none the wiser. See if you can get my e-mail address from the On-A-Roll list's web site and drop me a line to I can explain it in a text e-mail.

PS Jo: i'm glad you like SF! I love reading--and writing--speculative fiction, but more fantasy than sci fi these days. although I haven't yet read any of the books you mention in your post. So many good writers, so little time! Actually, I blogged my favourite authors and some of their books a month or so back: if you scroll to the bottom of my blog page and look in the l.h. margin where it says "Blog Archive" and click "September" you will find it blogged on Sunday, September 9.

Not sure what you mean by On-A-Roll so I asked Annalou, I assume she has you email already. Glad your hayfever is better, hope Lynn's is too.

Oh boy do we have stuff in common - I just read your blogged list of authors several of who whom are favourites of mine. I still have a bunch of John Wyndham's and I have two by Elizabeth Goudge, The Little White Horse being one of them. I also love all of Mary Stewart's work. You mentioned The Crystal Cave, have you read the Camulod books by Jack Whyte, a wonderful series about the concept of Camulot.

Satima Flavell said...

Hi again Jo! Oh, I'm so glad you like some of those old writers, too! A lot of younger people have barely heard of them, if at all. No, I haven't read Jack Whyte - I'll watch out for him in the 2nd hand shops.

Sorry, I thought you were on Annalou's writing mailing list, which is called On A Roll:-) I'm sure she will put us intouch by e-mail.

Annalou sent me your email so I have written. Re Jack Whyte, the first book is called The Skystone. I got them all from the library, I think there are 7 or 8 in the series. I also love the George R.R. Martin books, but am wondering when on earth he will produce another, I have been waiting so long I have almost forgotten the story.

Satima Flavell said...

Yeah, I love GRRM too and am getting impatient with him. (I've heard his editor is, too!)It will be worth waiting for, though. His books are great.

We haven't got a bad selection of SpecFic at our local library so I'll see if they have any of Jack Whyte's.
