About Me

I am based in Perth, Western Australia. You might enjoy my books - The Dagger of Dresnia, the first book of the Talismans Trilogy, is available at all good online book shops as is Book two, The Cloak of Challiver. Book three, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation. I trained in piano and singing at the NSW Conservatorium of Music. I also trained in dance (Scully-Borovansky, WAAPA) and drama (NIDA). Since 1987 I have been writing reviews of performances in all genres for a variety of publications, including Music Maker, ArtsWest, Dance Australia, The Australian and others. Now semi-retired, I still write occasionally for the ArtsHub website.

My books

The first two books of my trilogy, The Talismans, (The Dagger of Dresnia, and book two, The Cloak of Challiver) are available in e-book format from Smashwords, Amazon and other online sellers. Book three of the trilogy, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation.I also have a short story, 'La Belle Dame', in print - see Mythic Resonance below - as well as well as a few poems in various places. The best way to contact me is via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/satimaflavell

Buy The Talismans

The first two books of The Talismans trilogy were published by Satalyte Publications, which, sadly, has gone out of business. However, The Dagger of Dresnia and The Cloak of Challiver are available as ebooks on the usual book-selling websites, and book three, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation. The easiest way to contact me is via Facebook.

When a post is not a post

This is a post to apologise for not having posted. I have spent much of the day fighting with a set top box. I've finally realised that it has to go back to the shop and now I'm staggering to bed, exhausted.

I'll do a Real Post sometime during the week. Be well and happy meantime. And Happy New Year, in case I don't get back before then:-)

What is a set top box?

We've had a similar experience with an HD set-top box. We had one recently that we couldn't get working with our 6y/o telly, so we returned the box. It wasn't until after we returned it that Stephen discovered (via some online research) that the totally inadequate instructions didn't include the necessary info and that we should have been able to get the box to work if only we'd known 'this' and 'that'. Trouble is the box seemed to be responsible for the sudden hourglass distortion of our tv picture. We tried everything recommended to fix it, to no avail, and ended up going out and buying a very nice LCD telly with built-in HD.

Very frustrating, Satima! I confess, I got my son to set mine up. The instruction book was very little help. It will be great when you get things going.

Jo, the box is a device that allows you to tune into digital TV stations.

I think this one has a dud remote control. The TV recognises the box and brings up a screen to set up the channels (which is a whole nother ball game!) but then I can't move around because the remote doesn't work, even after two changes of batteries, the last ones brand new. And it's a discontinued line so I can't just exchange it, so I'll get a refund and start again. Like Webfaery, I might just get a new TV:-)Or, when I see the prices, I might not...

Times like this are only times I almost wish I had one:-) Fortunatley I have a couple of techie sons I can ring up. It was one of them who finally convinced me that the remote would not work, was never going to work, and had to go back where it came from.

I've taken it back and decided I don't want a set top box, after all:-)

Having been drawn back to this page, I understand now that you will have to have one in 2011 - we have one now, didn't like it and wanted to get rid of it and they said we might as well keep it.

Yes, I'm going to have to get one too, and hope its works properly this time!
