I am based in Perth, Western Australia. You might enjoy my books - The Dagger of Dresnia, the first book of the Talismans Trilogy, is available at all good online book shops as is Book two, The Cloak of Challiver. Book three, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation. I trained in piano and singing at the NSW Conservatorium of Music. I also trained in dance (Scully-Borovansky, WAAPA) and drama (NIDA). Since 1987 I have been writing reviews of performances in all genres for a variety of publications, including Music Maker, ArtsWest, Dance Australia, The Australian and others. Now semi-retired, I still write occasionally for the ArtsHub website.

A new life chapter!

Friends, come do a happy dance with me! Stephen Ormsby of Satalyte Publishing has just given me a tentative date of birth for my fantasy novel, The Dagger of Dresnia. It could be on our Kindles by the end of March! Yikes - better get a move on with book two, hadn't I?

I've been working on The Dagger of Dresnia for years, as those of you who've been following this blog for a while will know, but I don't think I've ever mentioned much about the content. The Dagger of Dresnia is a traditional-style medieval fantasy. The main character, Ellyria, is an elvish princess married to an ordinary mortal king, to whom she has born identical triplet sons. As the king lies dying, she starts to panic, because the triplets are already starting to argue over the succession. In the midst of grief and despair, she foolishly lets herself be persuaded to trust a dark spirit who offers to help - and of course things go downhill from there very rapidly! It's about the quandary we find ourselves in when we do the wrong thing for the right reasons. It has all the tropes - magic, romance, battle scenes and a bunch of characters I hope you will love as much as I do!

I do hope all my friends and rellies will like Dagger - I've spent years writing it and have learnt ever such a lot from the process. I now have even more respect for the writer's craft. It's hard yakka, and how some people manage to turn out several books in a year I cannot imagine. I'll keep you posted about the process. I expect Stephen will have lots of edits for me to attend to, and then there will be things like the cover art and publicity to deal with, too. That's to say nothing of finishing book two. This whole endeavour should be an interesting adventure!

There are lots of other goodies coming out from Satalyte, too, very soon: The Only Evil by Bevan McGuiness, Into The Storms Domain by Ged Maybury, Missing, Presumed Undead by Jeremy Davies and Adam Browne's collection 'Other Stories', and Other Stories will all be available within the coming weeks.  Find out more at http://satalyte.com.au/

Excellent news, Satima! Satalyte sounds like a name to watch for, and with Adam Browne and others, it sounds like you're in good company!

Many thanks, Simon! I do hope all my friends will like the book - I don't want to let the side down. As you say, I'm in very good company!

Congratulations, Satima! That's great news. Any chance it will be on anything but Kindles? I do have a kindle app, but don't care for it and absolutely loathe giving anyone my card details online. That's why I prefer iBooks, which I can use with an iTunes card.

I don't know about other formats, Sue, but it may well come out in print if the e-version sells well. I know many of my friends would rather have it in print so I'll have to get up a petition or something to encourage Stephen to consider it!

I don't like the Kindle app, either, but the reader is quite good. I hate reading on the computer, whatever the format.

I've got used to paying on line. It's the way things are being done now and the security is pretty good these days. Maybe I've been lucky but I've been shopping on line for ten years or more and have never had any trouble.

Congratulations! Looking forward to adding it to my collection. Sounds like it's right up my alley.

Terrific, Jeff! I shall be waiting with bated brath for your verdict! :-)

Looking forward to it, after all these years, I am so glad it is going to be published, but try not to make us wait too long for the sequel please.

I'm working on the sequel, Jo, but its publication will depend very much on how well the first book sells. Each of the three books stands alone quite well, so even if the second one is never published, the first one will have been a good read in its own right!
