About Me

Perth, Western Australia, Australia
I am based in Perth, Western Australia. You might enjoy my books - The Dagger of Dresnia, the first book of the Talismans Trilogy, is available at all good online book shops as is Book two, The Cloak of Challiver. Book three, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation. I trained in piano and singing at the NSW Conservatorium of Music. I also trained in dance (Scully-Borovansky, WAAPA) and drama (NIDA). Since 1987 I have been writing reviews of performances in all genres for a variety of publications, including Music Maker, ArtsWest, Dance Australia, The Australian and others. Now semi-retired, I still write occasionally for the ArtsHub website.
My books
The first two books of my trilogy, The Talismans, (The Dagger of Dresnia, and book two, The Cloak of Challiver) are available in e-book format from Smashwords, Amazon and other online sellers. Book three of the trilogy, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation.I also have a short story, 'La Belle Dame', in print - see Mythic Resonance below - as well as well as a few poems in various places. The best way to contact me is via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/satimaflavell
Buy The Talismans
The first two books of The Talismans trilogy were published by Satalyte Publications, which, sadly, has gone out of business. However, The Dagger of Dresnia and The Cloak of Challiver are available as ebooks on the usual book-selling websites, and book three, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation. The easiest way to contact me is via Facebook.

New look blog Mk II

So here is the brand-spanking new two column version. I was interested to see that Laura couldn't see columns at all in her browser - is anyone else having that problem?

Do tell me what you think: what you like and what doesn't work for you. And of course if you're reading this on Facebook, please check out my Blogger page at http://satimaflavell.blogspot.com

OK, I have checked it twice, like Santa!!! On my desktop I find it more difficult to read. The only columns I get is one with your blog in it and one with all the other info which doesn't seem much of a difference. However, on my laptop it looks much better and I can see the whole page at once without any problems. Much easier to read. The overall appearance is good though. I particularly love the feather pen logo.

Thanks, Jo. I've had lots of comments over on my FB feed and it seems different browsers are handling the layout in different ways.

BTW, the logo was designed especially by a friend of my son Scott. It's on my bsiness cards as well.

At the moment, I can see 2 columns. One on the left is the part that has headings in bright blue and contains the links, blog list and stuff, then there's the main blog postings in the righthand large column. Is that what you meant?

I really like the way you have so much info up there and all so accessible, and you get an idea of whether it interesting enough to click through to.

Satima,

You will never be able to please everyone. I liked the first version, but I like this version too. I also like the feather pen! But, one must scrawl right down to the bottom to find out who you are. Can't you move that back up to the top? If you want to draw editing offers, then I think that visitors must immediately be able to see who you are without having to scrawl down to the bottom.

I have to scroll across to see all of the right hand column.

This wretched sideways scrolling is a problem and I don't think there's anything I can do about it. Recent templates are, I think, designed for large screens:-(

It looks as if you're seeing it correctly, Glenda. Maybe you have a large screen and a browser that sees the layout as intended. Not all of them do.

I can either have the standard version of my bio up the top and then people have to scroll down to the blog, or have a custom one at the bottom - the only place Blogger will let me put it!

Okay, it works beautifully with firefox with a big screen, but not safari.

I use Firefox too and can see it clearly. I actually like this better than the first one.
