About Me

Perth, Western Australia, Australia
I am based in Perth, Western Australia. You might enjoy my books - The Dagger of Dresnia, the first book of the Talismans Trilogy, is available at all good online book shops as is Book two, The Cloak of Challiver. Book three, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation. I trained in piano and singing at the NSW Conservatorium of Music. I also trained in dance (Scully-Borovansky, WAAPA) and drama (NIDA). Since 1987 I have been writing reviews of performances in all genres for a variety of publications, including Music Maker, ArtsWest, Dance Australia, The Australian and others. Now semi-retired, I still write occasionally for the ArtsHub website.

The first two books of my trilogy, The Talismans, (The Dagger of Dresnia, and book two, The Cloak of Challiver) are available in e-book format from Smashwords, Amazon and other online sellers. Book three of the trilogy, The Seer of Syland, is in preparation.I also have a short story, 'La Belle Dame', in print - see Mythic Resonance below - as well as well as a few poems in various places. Glitches and hitches

Isn't life full of them? No progress on the web site because poor Scott had a computer catch fire, with predictable results - lost files, lost time, lost money. And I had planned to post a pic of my new doggie friend, Morgan - but the battery went flat on the camera just as I was trying to take a pic.

However, I had a lovely afternoon with friends today at a fundraiser for next year's Swancon, Perth's annual SF convention. Our team won loads of prizes both individually and as a group. I scored a bottle of Baileys and some chocolate, among other things - a nice little stroke of luck, for a change.:-)Not that I did much to earn them - I just happened to be with the smartest team. Their collective knowledge, especially on comics, movies and themes from TV shows had me floored. Most of the few answers I contributed were wrong. I guess I was born too early for most of the questions!

Back next week with Morgan and maybe more on the new website!

That's life innit? Always something.

How on earth did his computer catch fire???

Satima Flavell said...

Overheated, I suppose. I wasn't there, but apparently it just made a funny noise and started smoking!

Just shows...We can rely on our writer friends but NOT on technology!
Hope all your glitches get fixed soon!...Karen T. :))

A pc can catch fire? Oh my goodness, now I have another worry!

Satima Flavell said...

The danger is apparently the fan packing up, and so the 'puter gets overhot, puffs smoke and kills the HD:-( Scott is still trying to recover files, with little success.

Laptops are a danger in this instance because people leave them on soft surfaces which prevent or restrict air getting to the system and then they catch fire. I blogged about this some time ago.

Never heard of a desk top catching fire before though.

Satima Flavell said...

I think they only do it when the fans stops working.

Nope not so Satima, if you leave a laptop on a surface like a sofa, armchair or bed, the feet are not doing their work of lifting the unit and this restricts air flow and, assuming the unit is running, it will then overheat because the fan cannot access enough cooler air. There has been a lot about it on TV over here. Many laptops have caught fire just for this reason. Personally if I am not using it, I turn it off.
